THE 2018 CRAIG FOSTER TOUR

UPDATED January

The Pirates 13s team competed at the biggest Craig Foster Tournament yet, with over 130 teams participating.

Our boys had a tough, competitive age division with most of the teams being close to one another in skill sets.

They won their first game 5-3 against Sydney's Northern Beaches, lost their second to South Australia's State "Red" team 2-4. Next up was Morten Bay - won 8-3 - then they lost to the Sunshine Coast 3-5.  After four games it was 2 - 2. It was a Roller Coaster! An emphatic 8-1 win over Bundaberg settled their nerves, but they came crashing down to earth after the next game, losing 1-5 to the eventual Champions, Gold Coast.

By this time, fatigue and injuries had started to play a major factor in the boys' performance. The Ladder showed that they had to beat the other South Australian State team, "Blue", to advance to the semi finals. They were below the Pirates on the Ladder, but you would not have known that the way the Blues' played! The Pirates conceded two goals, but they fought back to be 2-2 - goal for goal in the first half - 3-3 at half time. This was the Pirates Final!

The second half was equally dramatic. They took the lead, 4-3. Going by the other results, we could scrape through with a draw, if the goal difference went our way. However, the pressure began to tell and they conceded two goals in the last two minutes to lose the match 5-4. The boys were gutted.

In summary, it was a great experience for the players, as this was a very competitive tournament against some very good teams that played great Futsal. Now with a year of experience under their belt, they are roaring to go again in 2019!

This was the sixth year in a row that the Bayside Pirates have competed in Australia's largest Futsal Tournament. Following on from the 2017 Girls 16s unprecedented success in lifting the Championship, after winning all eight matches, they went onto compete in USA Futsal's World Series in Orlando, where they came a credible third.
